Kimmerer asks readers to imagine scientific thinking in a much different way than they may have experienced, so they might, like her, “stare too long at the world with science eyes see an afterimage of traditional knowledge.” Braiding Sweetgrass brings together a range of topics, including botany, ecology, Indigenous science and culture, environmental conservation, sustainability, and more-and we’ll touch on these ideas throughout this Book Club season. Published in 2013, this book is a beautifully written collection of essays on plants and other beings, reciprocity and responsibility, and our relationship with the Earth. ![]() This October, the SciFri Book Club will delve into the meditations and scientific explorations of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants by botanist, professor, and Potawatomi citizen Robin Wall Kimmerer. There’s lots of ways to participate: Read the book, join our online community space, attend an upcoming event, or send a message at (646) 767-6532 or on the SciFri VoxPop app. ![]() Welcome to the SciFri Book Club page about Braiding Sweetgrass. ![]()
